This tweet sums up the thought process:. How motivated is Rafael Nadal? How focused is he on the impending clay season and defending his deca-whatever at Barcelona, Rome, Madrid and Roland Garros? The first two should be winnable. Who is kidding who? This is a chalk draw. Novak probably wins this in his sleep. If the number is big enough, you can probably hedge and make a few dollars. Two to start with would be Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz in the top section of the third quarter.
They both have winnable first two matches and then they match up with Cilic and Nishikori, respectively. You may not have heard of Ilya Ivashka. He is no tour regular. Actually, at 25 years old, he plays most of his matches on the Challenger circuit. But, he lines up two clay courters coming travelling from Brazil and the Golden Swing in his first two matches. These courts are slower, for sure, but should he be in form, Ivashka may be able to power past Andreozzi and Djere.
Berdych cruised against the likes of Istomin, Kavcic and Gasquet here in Doha — pretty strong opponents for the early rounds, and the Czech star did not lose more than 5 games in any of his three matches. Bet on Berdych vs. Seppi with the best tennis handicap odds at Unibet. Having watched Seppi in his 2 set win over Dodig yesterday I have to say that the Italian is not playing particularly solid tennis.
Andreas made a lot of errors 22 unforced in the first set! His serve was also non-existent, Dodig attacking every one of his second serves — a thing Berdych is more than capable of doing himself. Berdych leads the H2H on hard and he won the last 5 meetings between the two.
Additionally, Tomas did not lose a single set in the 6 wins over Seppi, which pretty clearly proves that he likes to play against the Italian. The Italian is not playing his best tennis despite his quarterfinal run and an in-form Berdych should get another blowout win today — after all he did cover a 4,5 game handicap in 5 of his 6 wins against Seppi.
A Berdych win in straight sets would also be a solid tip, but the odds are lower. Prediction: Tomas Berdych — Andreas Seppi Pick: Berdych -4,5 Odds: 1. Your email address will not be published.
He has a big serve and game to match, and although in theory Murray's natural counter punching should soak up his powerful shots, it's not always that simple. I think Murray will get it but he'll likely drop at least one set. This should be a belter. Ferrer really is playing so well right now. And who knows, he might well edge this one. He is a fighter and will not give in. Djokovic will have to go out and play his best against the Spaniard to win this one. I think in a Grand Slam semi though that Djokovic has too much game and experience and although it will be a close match, I expect the Serb to win and meet Murray in the final.
So, the Olympics are a distant memory and the focus now turns to the last major event of the year - the US Open. Following success at the Toronto Masters, Djokovic will be looking to add to his trophy cabinet and comes in as defending champion.
However he will need to play a whole lot better than he did against Federer in the Cincinnati final where he got a real thrashing from the world No. I don't fancy Djokovic for this Slam. I think he's climbed a mountain and is going back down the other side towards end of this year, and seems tired to me. Federer on the other hand is on a high at the moment and is the man to beat. He has found his form again, helped no doubt by the absence of his nemesis Nadal who is sadly missing another tournament due to his troublesome knee.
Federer ought to make the final at least, and should go all the way as he loves playing in Flushing Meadows and has a great record here. After his fantastic Olympic success, Murray finally got the breakthrough he wanted and needed, and now has the belief he can win his first slam. He has no better chance than New York this year, and although he struggled in the two Masters events leading up to the US Open withdrew through injury and then got knocked out in the early rounds I think he will have a strong tournament.
No Nadal is a big plus for him, and I think with Djokovic not at his best he will probably meet Federer in the final. I think he has a real shot of winning, even against Federer: he has admitted he loves playing in New York as much as anywhere and he finally now has the belief to go all the way.
Others to watch out for against the big names are Gasquet who had a great tournament in Toronto but lost out to Djokovic in the final, and Raonic who has now cracked the top 20 and is a young player who can come out swinging and cause upsets. He comprehensively outplayed Federer, and while the Swiss master never really turned up to the match, he wasn't really allowed to play either.
In the second set when Murray was a break up at and serving, he held off numerous break back points from Federer, and, after winning that tough game, never looked troubled after that. That was the sort of game that he was losing against Federer in the Wimb What a platform for him to now build on; I bet he can't wait for the US Open. This is a tournament where I've always felt he would win his first slam, and he is the current player in form so let's hope he can take this momentum forward and win there too.
This could be the biggest moment of Murray's career. He is desperately hungry to win the Gold and I think he has momentum and confidence going into the final. After beating Djokovic in straight sets to get there, and his second successive final at Wimbledon, this is the perfect chance to put right his loss to Federer a few weeks ago. While he can say that that final loss won't be a factor in this match, in the heat of battle if things start to go wrong then it will creep into his mind that he can't afford to lose again.
Hopefully he has banished all thoughts of that loss though and can focus fully on winning here for GB. Federer has admitted to feeling extremely drained after his epic semi against Del Potro, and while he is super fit, even he will be aching a bit today.
This might be a factor early on as Murray is pretty fresh, so expect a good start from Team GB. Federer is such a great champion though so it would be stupid not to expect him to win. This is a best of 5 set match which will favour the Swiss star. I think if it were best of 3 then Murray would win fairly comfortably, but the longer this match goes on, the more you have to favour Federer. He always finds a way to win somehow, and is an incredible front runner so a good start from Murray is essential.
If he can bag the first set and hopefully start serving first in the second he has a great chance. I would never write off Federer in a big final; he has too much class and experience. But I think Murray is the fresher player and wants this so badly. My prediction is for Murray to get the first two sets, Federer to dig deep and come back in the third, and then a close fourth set that Murray will win to scoop Gold.
Murray is hungry for the Gold, but so it seems is Baghdatis. He overcame a very tough opponent in Gasquet and beat him in straight sets, so Murray will have to watch himself. Not to mention he took the second set off Murray this year at Wimbledon. He is easily capable of winning a set here, but Murray should prevail.
On paper this is straight forward. The Serb should win as easily as he did against Roddick yesterday. But then again, who would have thought the plucky Aussie would beat Cilic so easily yesterday? Hewitt is a fighter and a great counter puncher. And he'll need to be against the world number 2. I'd like to think Hewitt will get the crowd behind him and take a set from Djokovic, but I think it'll be straight sets.
Ferrer is the favourite here, but Nishikori is pretty fearless and can cause trouble for Ferrer. I think there's a chance he could come out guns blazing and nick this one. Some great matches up today! Let's hope the weather holds off and we get them all in. Here's my picks:. This could be a belter of a match if Baghdatis turns up and comes out swinging.
These are two very stylish entertaining players to watch, and both play well on grass. If Gasquet's backhand is in full flow then see you later Baghdatis, but equally Baghdatis can come up with some unbelievable shots. I definitely think Baghdatis is capable of getting the first set, but even if he does Gasquest should go all the way. If Gasquet gets the first set and breaks Baghdatis right away in the second, it's game over. A tricky lefty for Murray today in Nieminen.
Murray should take him easily though, but he'll have to watch out in the first set. Left handers take some getting used to and it might take Murray a set to get his eye in properly. In thoery Murray should win in straight sets, but I'd have an outside bet on Nieminen to win the first. Even if he does though Murray will come back and get it in 3. Roddick might snatch the first set here today. He has a point to prove after such a dismal grass court season and has an extra chance to relive his glory days.
If his serve and forehand are firing he is always a handful. Djokovic is one of the best returners ever though and probably has too much game for Roddick these days. Tight match this one. Raonic is a good outside bet here. Tsonga ought to be the better player, but if he's a bit off then I fancy Raonic to win. I think this has potential to go to a third set. If it does, it could come down to who serves first as to who gets it. But if Tsonga is playing his best then it will be straight sets.
This will be a very tighly contested game. They match up very well and there should be lots of games played over all. Lopez plays well on grass and I think he might have the edge today. Quite a head to head record and we can expect a competitive fixture given the kind of form both players are in. Follow the article for some betting tips, pred Follow the article for some betting tips, predictions and strategic insights into the game. Tomas Berdych has won 7 of his last 10 matches and most of them have come in least possible sets only.
Except for his Montreal upset against Young, he has displayed some good Tennis performances. Richard Gasquet on the other hand has won 7 of his last 10 matches signifying his good form also. He had to work hard in his first round fixture but his performances in the next rounds are impressive. A win for Berdych is on the cards but it would be foolish to write Gasquet off the game.
